Wednesday Rides: Fountainbridge with Judith

Setting off from Fountainbridge, join Judith on a wee jaunt around Edinburgh.

No drops as always. We will wait at key points to keep the group together. These group rides are more about claiming some precious & potholed tarmac space, rather than chasing QOMs. The only essential thing to have is a working bike - any type will do. The days are getting shorter so fully charged lights are a must and we encourage you to wear a helmet!

A small request that everyone checks their brakes beforehand as we want to keep you all safe. A spare tube or plugs to fix a puncture is a must and some basic tools would be helpful but there will always be someone with tools to help out if you need to borrow anything (in case disaster strikes, you will get help with it).

Our rides are completely self supported which mean we will be there for you as best we can but you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being.

Sign up will go live a few days before each event. Keep an eye out on the ride link below for more details and any updates:

Arran Weekend Adventure

!! This trip is currently fully booked. If you are interesting in adding your name to the wait list please email us at hello@queensofpain.cc !!

Yep, you heard right: it's time for a QoP weekend extravaganza trip!

We've booked Killmory Haven for a 2 night stay on the south side of Arran starting on the 30th of August 2024. We have access to 20 comfy beds, a kitchen, lounge space and bike parking (a mix of outdoor and indoor spaces available). Get excited for huge vegan meals and loads of trails, roads and ferry rides to explore. You might even see dolphins, snakes or otters! You WILL have fun.

The provisional schedule is for people to arrive during the late afternoon on Friday 30th August, have a cosy dinner and make plans for Saturday. We'll help people group up and explore the island based on riding styles / interests.

Stuff yourself at breakfast on Saturday, be an early bird and get out there with the sunrise! Or sleep in and have brunch and take it easy. Ride as much or as little as you want: you will have options to choose from and buddies to join you. Another big communal dinner on Saturday night awaits!

On Sunday dig into breakfast and then make your choice: do you ride some new Arran trails or roads? Do you make your way back to Edinburgh the long way via the 4 remaining ferries? Do you just take it easy and head straight home? Do you go full blast and stay a whole extra night? No wrong choices here.

How much does it cost:

  • £90 full price

  • £60 subsidised price (2 places)

The subsidised price is for people who are on a low income (below £25,000 per year as a single person household). No questions or proof necessary. The 2 spots will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

What's included:

  • 2 nights accommodation in hostel style bunk beds (rooms are 2x 8 bunks, 1x 4 beds)

  • 2 breakfasts

  • 2 dinners (vegan)

  • Bike routes with both road and gravel options

What's not included:

  • Daytime snacks or lunch on Saturday or Sunday

  • Edinburgh - Ardrossan return train: £32 Anytime Return (cost accurate to date of posting information, this may change)

  • Ardrossan - Brodick  return ferry: £8.40 (cost accurate to date of posting information, this may change)

  • You can extend your stay on Sunday and take advantage of the Bank Holiday Monday: £26 for an extra night payable directly to Kilmory Haven

Terms and conditions for booking:

Your space is booked once you pay a £30 deposit using this link: https://monzo.me/adnadumitrescu

The remaining £60 (or £30 for a subsidised space) are due by 1st May 2024. We reserve the right to transfer your spot to another person if we don't receive full payment by this date.

You can cancel and receive a full refund for your spot before 1st May 2024. After this date you can transfer your name to another person. We will try our best to find a replacement so that you can be refunded, but cannot guarantee it.

The regular QoP disclaimer applies to this event. Our rides are completely self supported which means we will be there for you as best we can but by signing up for this event, you agree that Queens of Pain and the ride leaders are not responsible for your safety - you are ultimately responsible for your own security and wellbeing.

EdFoC: Picnic Ride

We are delighted to be hosting a few events this year as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling (EdFoc).

Last but not least, join us on a FREE 25-kilometre led ride around Edinburgh ending with a social (Bring Your Own) Picnic. The route starts and finishes at the Meadows by the Pavilion Cafe. We’ll take you down quiet paths connecting the Meadows, Granton, Leith and Holyrood Park. There will be several on-road sections to navigate too.

All are welcome. This is a social no-drop ride: which means that we do not have a minimum ride speed and that we will adjust the pace on the go making sure we stay together, and re-grouping where required. Children may join if they are accompanied by an adult and can ride a pedal cycle for the distance of our route.

To join all you need is:

  • a working bike: any type will do;

  • a helmet and a spare tube (compulsory);

  • your own picnic, though there are numerous options to grab food in the cafes and shops by the Meadows.

Our rides are self-supported, which means we will be there for you as best we can but by signing up for this ride, you agree that Queens of Pain and the ride leaders are not responsible for your safety – you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and wellbeing.

Mixed Mondays

Come one and all to pedal with us again this Monday and enjoy the city by bike, QoP style! Everyone welcome.

EdFoC: Pump Track Curious

EdFoC: Pump Track Curious

We are delighted to be hosting a few events this year as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling (EdFoc). Second up we have our Pump Track Curious session at Edinburgh’s SKELF Bike Park.

Curious about pump tracks? Want to learn how to ride one in the company of other women, trans, queer and non-binary folks?

This session aims to teach you how to navigate the various features of a pump track with guidance from those who know how. Bring your own bike, ideally a jump bike, BMX or MTB but we can make most bikes work. We'll also offer the opportunity to try a jump or BMX bike on the day.

Helmets are mandatory. Gloves, flat shoes and knee and elbow pads are recommended but not compulsory.

The session is £7.50 which includes coaching from a local UCI Pump Track Champion and the opportunity to try out some jump bikes. All profits will be donated towards the upkeep and development of the park.

Grab you spot! www.eventbrite.com

Our rides are self-supported, which means we will be there for you as best we can but by signing up for this ride, you agree that Queens of Pain and the ride leaders are not responsible for your safety – you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and wellbeing.

Edinburgh Festival of Cycling: Building a Cycling Community

We are delighted to be hosting a few events this year as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling (EdFoc).

First up we have a FREE talk held at ProjektRide Bike Shop. Ruby will introduce you to the Queens of Pain story, what makes a welcoming and flourishing community and what it takes to keep it thriving. On a mission to increase diversity within cycling, Queens of Pain are a community that creates space for people to meet, build confidence, grow and go off on their own adventures, increasing representation in the outdoors industry.

On the night, Queens of Pain will be joined by Edinburgh School of Rocks and Belles on Bikes, giving their experiences in building a cycling community. School of Rocks has groups across the UK and describes itself as a woman-led community offering a toolkit to empower everyone to find joy in off-road cycling. Belles on Bikes is a local Edinburgh group that aims to support women to get cycling together in a friendly, inclusive and relaxed environment.

Join us at ProjektRide who will be sharing their space with us and providing some refreshments on the night. Start arriving from 6.30pm to give you time to chat to the hosts and settle in. The talk will begin at 7pm and leave time at the end for questions and socialising.

QoP x Dr. Bike

We have a treat for you this weekend! Queens of Pain are joining forces with The Bike Station at Causewayside to introduce you to their Dr. Bike sessions. This will be an opportunity to meet some of the Dr. Bike team, get a little bike maintenance and maybe even learn a thing or two about fixing your bike. The Bike Station is a great charity that does lots of cool things, so let’s go support them!

The ride will set off at 9am from The Meadows by the Pavilion Cafe. We will pedal South, taking in some of Edinburghs cycle infrastructure and heading back North to finish at The Bike Station at Causewayside around 11.30. The route will be 20-25km and our wonderful hosts will have a few refreshments waiting for us at the end.

No drops as always. We will wait at key points to keep the group together. These group rides are more about claiming some precious & potholed tarmac space, rather than chasing QOMs. The only essential thing to have is a working bike - any type will do, and we encourage you to wear a helmet!
